It’s no wonder Highland Park, a world-renowned Scottish distillery on the island of Orkney, asked MaeVona co-founder and jewelry designer Maeve Gillies to create a bottle for its most prized asset – a 50 year old single malt whisky. To Highland Park, the ideal candidate needed to be much more than simply a native of Scotland. They needed someone who could create an exterior casing that would be just as extraordinary as the contents held inside. After all, with production capped at 275 units, this extremely rare liquid is as precious as a diamond itself.
Maeve used her love of Nature and the island of Orkney itself as her inspiration. Each glass bottle is wrapped in an intricate, undulating “net cage” of hand-crafted sterling silver which is reminiscent of the wild elemental forces found on the island. Its seas, island life, wild elements, incredible natural light and the passage of time are captured in the organic design. Each bottle is also inset with a piece of historic Orcadian sandstone, engraved with Highland Park’s logo.
The bottles retail for $17,400 and are available exclusively at Harrods in London during October 2010. It will then become available worldwide, through select luxury retailers and hotels, high-end bars and private members clubs. For more information, visit the links below.
