The Story

Rousay is one of the beautiful Orkney islands located North of the Scottish mainland. This island is home to the most famous archeological site in Scotland, where remains and settlements from Stone Age farmers, Viking invaders and the Picts (ancient people of Scotland) from the Iron Age can be found. It is because of these incredible remains that Rousay has been nicknamed 'the Egypt of the North'. In addition to its rich history, Rousay is also great for bird-watching, and is abound in wildflowers such as orchids, primroses, thyme and heathers. Although the population rests around 200 people, Rousay also holds a thriving traditional craft industry, involving spinning, knitting, tapestries, straw work, wood turning and painting.
