Edinburgh is a beautiful historic Scottish town in the eastern Central region, and is the capital city of Scotland. Also the seat of the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh nestles around a series of seven hills lining the Firth of Forth near the North Sea, the centerpiece of which is the stunning Edinburgh castle dating back to the 11th century, sitting high up on volcanic rock in the city center.
Edinburgh was central to the Scottish Enlightenment, led by the world-famous Edinburgh University, which helped earn its nickname The Athens of the North. The architecture of Edinburgh is also world-renowned, with the distinctive Old Town and New Town areas being recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are over 4,500 listed buildings within the city.
Once a year in August, the Edinburgh Festival takes place, which has grown to become the largest all-arts festival in the world, including the famous Edinburgh Fringe, the largest performing-arts festival in the world.
Edinburgh is also the Scottish home of MaeVona founder Maeve Gillies, who was born and raised in the south side of the city, and completed her first jewellery degree at the historic Edinburgh College of Art. MaeVona lovers visiting Edinburgh will see how the architecture, flair and unique character of this beautiful city is the backbone to Maeve’s inspiration.
