Raasay is an beautiful island that lies between the mainland of Scotland and the island of Skye.
One of the greatest Scottish Gaelic poets of all time, Sorley MacLean, was born and raised on the island. MaeVona creator Maeve Gillies is alive today thanks to Sorley himself, as he taught both of Maeve's parents, William and Valerie, at school - and their mutual friend, Sorley's daughter Ishbel, introduced them!
Raasay is also a geologist's paradise, featuring a widely varied rocky landscape and spectacular cliffs.
