Bressay is the fifth largest island of the remarkable and stunning Shetland isles, the northernmost collection of islands in Scotland. Home to almost 400 Shetlanders, it is likely that Bressay got its name from a Norse nobleman named Earl Brusi, as it was originally called Brus-Oy (Old Norse for Brusiís Island).
Bressay also has a famous lighthouse, which was built in 1858 by Thomas and David Stevenson, and has been a landmark for generations of seafarers.
